Cutting loose

„Cutting loose“

René Meyer (rmyr) is cutting loose – literally. His sharpest pochoir show yet, at x23 Gallery Leipzig

René is known for his intricately cut stencils depicting complex industrial architecture and urban landscapes. In this exhibition, his endeavour to continually push the boundaries of this art form through playful experimentation with concepts, techniques and materials comes more sharply into focus.

The works on display navigate the tension between his characteristic photorealism and a pursuit of material authenticity. The more playful the approach, the greater the alienation of his motifs: at times fragmentary, at times visually distorted. This tension is further expanded through an aesthetic dialogue with other artists and their visual language. All these elements are an expression of his ongoing endeavour to rethink the stencil as an art form and to re-explore its boundaries.
